Post 28…February 2023…Servanthood

As usual, Jesus is our example of servanthood.  He was the greatest servant of all time. Jesus went about doing good, teaching the truth, teaching the ignorant, soothing people’s sorrows, pardoning the guilty, saving the lost, giving sight to a blind Bartimaeus, then restoring the mind of a poor maniac, and sending him home to bless his family, then raising the dead, casting out devils and healing the diseased, and His list goes on.  He is our example of what a servant should be.  Not even the devil is his tempting broke the Lord and for the Lord to do right. Through it all Jesus went about preaching, praying, and traveling so more people could hear and see Him and be able to accept Him.

It wasn’t until the day of Pentecost that the apostles really committed themselves to the work of the Lord Jesus.  It was then that the they began to bear the burden of doing the work of the Lord and they continued doing it until their time on this earth was up.  These men worked hard to get the word of the Lord out there  To serve our Amazing Lord has not stopped.  We, as Christians are to go out and do the same as the Apostles and disciples of Christ did…no matter the cost to us here on this earth.  Many might have an easy time of proclaiming the Lord today, but many others will be martyred for believing in the Lord.  No matter the cost we are to tell others about Jesus and stand on the truth of His word..

We go through this world but to a Christian, we are to lay a solid, biblical foundation in our life, and help others to see that as well.  We are to have a servant mentality.  We are to find out what drove Jesus to be the servant He was and then use that as an example for ourselves.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”  Mark 10:45.

We, as Christians, are not be concerned not only about your own interests, but the interests of others as well”  Phil 1:4.   We are to have, as Christians, the same attitude towards others as Jesus had.

As I look around the world today I see less and less of true servanthood in people.  People are more prone now (not all of course) to be all they can be, do all they can do to make themselves richer, more powerful, popular and so on.  That is not our job on this earth.  We are to do whatever God says to do and do it with a good heart.  Our journey through life is different for each of us.  We are not called to do the same things, go the same places, or reach the same people.  Your job for the kingdom might be to reach millions, or your job might be to reach one or two people the Lord wants you to reach.  Just be obedient!

You all know by now I am no “real writer”.  In fact, in my own opinion, I don’t put my sentences together properly…but I am willing to get the message God wants out there and God uses that to reach someone.  I know I sure don’t talk well, especially in front of people…but I put words on paper and God can use that.  I wished I was a great writer, a great speaker…but I am not, but I can put words on paper and let God lead someone He wants to see them take them there.  Maybe that is you that is supposed to read something.  If it is then I pray it blesses you.

I need the Lord, and those that are not a Christians just think that us that do need Jesus are weak…but we are strong!  We are walking on the right road that will carry across that finish line one day when our time comes.  I don’t need religion to carry me through life…I need Jesus each and every moment of each and every day.  He is my foundation, my rock, my Savior, my heartbeat, and without Him I am lost and am nothing.

Many people think they need self-help books to explain life to them.  They think they have to become whatever it is that they feel is important to their life and getting more, doing more, becoming richer and so on.  My aim in life is to follow Jesus weather I am rich or poor.  It is in Him I find my wealth of life and that is having Him as my Lord over whatever the world thinks is important to have.   While others want to focus their life on gaining more of whatever, I want to place my focus on the one who will give me eternity for asking Him into my life and doing what He wants me to do.  Nothing else in life is more important than following Jesus and being a servant of His.

What is a servant?  It is the state, condition, or quality of one who lives as a servant.  To me, a Christian it is being submissive to God and then taking whatever it is that He gives me to do and serve someone else in a godly way.  It is never me putting me first.  I willingly give myself to God to use for His glory.

I also believe that we must give, forgive, and forget.   “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others”. (Philippians 2:3–4)

“For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another”. (Galatians 5:13)

Once you and I make up our minds to implement the truth of Philippians 2:3–4 (taking a special interest in others) and Galatians 5:13 (serving others in love), these three basics will begin to emerge.

“Instead of always thinking about receiving, we’ll start looking for ways to give. Instead of holding grudges against those who offend us, we’ll be anxious to forgive. And instead of keeping a record of what we’ve done or who we’ve helped, we’ll take delight in forgetting the deed(s) and being virtually unnoticed. Our hunger for public recognition will diminish in significance.”

Givingforgiving, and forgetting . . . as a servant of Jesus Christ, which of these three do you need to apply most today? If you are having an issue with these then go to God and ask Him to help you in these areas of your life.  It is not always easy to forgive and forget the pain someone has caused us, but it is necessary to free us.  When we hang on to these things we still allow people to have power over us.  Do you help someone because you want something back from them?  If that is you then know that is wrong.  Don’t do a good deed to get something.  Do a good deed because it is right and it is a good deed.  “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45)  Always point people to Jesus and what He did.  Don’t you be the center of it but let God be God and you be the servant. You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had.”

Following Jesus should propel us to be servants to others as Jesus was to others.

Now, may God bless you, keep you, encourage you, provide for your needs, guide you, draw you to Him, and heal you if you need to be healed.

God bless you
